Port of Chabahar
Chabahar Port is located in the southeast of Iran, north of the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean and is the closest route to international oceans for the landlocked countries of Central Asia. One of the features that distinguish it from other Iranian ports and ports on the southern coast of the Persian Gulf is its direct access to the international high seas.
The port of Chabahar, like other Iranian ports, is part of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran. "PMO" carries out the development, regulation and management of ports.
The Port of Chabahar, in terms of its position, benefits from geopolitical, geo-economic and geo-strategic potential. The port can play the role of a transport gateway, as well as a central commercial hub between the countries of Central Asia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia and Europe.
Rail and transport links to and from the port are designed to better connect Central Asia to international freight traffic.
The construction of the Chabahar port is one of the largest projects of bilateral economic cooperation between Iran and India. Currently Chabahar port consists of two port complexes named Shahid Kalantari Port and Shahid Beheshti Port.
Chabahar port, the largest in Iran after Bandar Abbas is one of the key elements in the North-South international transit corridor.
On January 23-26, 2022, the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan paid an official working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the port of Chabahar.
As a result of the visit, on January 25, 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between “Uzbekistan Temir Yullari” JSC and Chabahar Port, providing information and consulting support to the Parties in the field of transit, logistics and cargo transportation using existing international multimodal transport routes.
